Important Dates for Anthropology Awards

Anthropology Section Award Deadlines

Anthropology Section Award details can be found in the AAFS Policy and Procedures Manual online. This is a reminder to submit nominations to the Section Chair (jaymelee.kim@gmail.com) by October 1, 2026.

Outstanding Mentorship Award: Recognizes and promotes mentorship in the AAFS Anthropology Section. 

Participation and Engagement Travel Award: Awarded to increase participation of scholars and conference accessibility. 

Caroline Bond Day Pilot Study Grant: Awarded to aid student progress toward their degree and to assist in securing grants for research completion. 

W. Montague Cobb Public Engagement Award: Awarded to a forensic anthropology practitioner who exemplifies public engagement between our discipline and the greater community. 

Additional Awards

Ellis R. Kerley Research Award: Recognizes professional research excellence in forensic anthropology. Deadline: AAFS Abstract Submission Deadline (using the AAFS Form).

T. Dale Stewart Award: Recognizes outstanding, career-long contributions to the field of forensic anthropology. Deadline: January 1, 2027. Nominations sent to: Section Chair (jaymelee.kim@gmail.com).

J. Lawrence Angel Student Research Award: Awarded to student(s) who present a paper that is recognized for excellence. Deadline: AAFS Abstract Submission Deadline (Indicate consideration during submission in the portal).
