National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) researcher Kelly Sauerwein discusses best practices for respectful handling of donated human remains in research.
Kelly Sauerwein is a physical scientist with the Special Programs Office at the NIST. Her work focuses primarily on assessing the scientific foundations of forensic science methods and practices. She has authored reports and supplemental documents on bitemark analysis, footwear and tire impression examination, digital investigation techniques and digital quality management practices. She holds a PhD in anthropology from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, specializing in human decomposition for postmortem interval estimation, validation, and human factors applications.
